Starting Early Is The Best!

Teeth can erupt from as early as 6 months and a full set be established around 3 years of age.

As a parent it is up to you as to when you bring your child to the dentist. However, we do recommend by the age of 3 years that children have their first general examination.

We suggest bringing your little ones to the dental practice at an early age so they begin to become familiar with the environment, the chair and dental procedures.

Early exposure can also be informative and begin to cement good oral hygiene practises that continue into adolescence and adulthood.

We honour the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS) for eligible families.

This Government scheme gives a $1158 capped benefit per child aged 2-17 years, over a 2 year period.

The amount can be used for basic dental services such as examinations, cleans, fissure seals, fillings and extractions.

Why Early Orthodontic Assessment Matters for Your Family

Dental on Errard offers family orthodontic services in Ballarat, VIC, helping parents understand how early orthodontic assessment can shape a child's long-term dental health. Spotting alignment concerns while a child's jaw and bite are still developing may allow for simpler, more effective guidance down the track. At Dental on Errard, orthodontic assessments and treatment are provided by experienced general dentists with additional training in orthodontics.

The Benefits of Early Family Orthodontic Assessment

Booking a Family Orthodontic Ballarat VIC assessment during the primary school years can offer several advantages:

  • Identifying crowding or spacing concerns before all adult teeth have erupted.

  • Monitoring jaw development at a stage when natural growth may assist correction.

  • Reducing the likelihood of more complex treatment being needed in the teenage years.

  • Giving parents and children time to consider options such as clear aligners well in advance.

  • Building a comfortable relationship with the dental team early in a child's life.

Tips for Parents: What to Watch For

For families seeking local orthodontic care in Ballarat VIC, our team encourages parents to keep an eye on a few early indicators at home:

  • Teeth that appear noticeably crowded or overlapping as they come through.

  • Difficulty chewing, or a child regularly biting their cheek or tongue.

  • Mouth breathing, particularly during sleep, which can sometimes relate to jaw positioning.

  • Baby teeth that fall out much earlier or later than expected for their age group.

If any of these patterns seem familiar, speaking with a practice like Dental on Errard about family orthodontic care in Ballarat VIC may be a helpful next step. You can also explore common questions ahead of time via our Orthodontic FAQs.
